動画タイトル / キャプション: Ryota Yamazaki at 15 playing Chopin’s Étude Op. 10, No. 1 in C Major. Remember the name. At 15, he won the Grand Prize and Audience Prize of Japan’s PTNA Competition; the youngest winner ever. He is now 26 and last year he got 3rd Prize at the Busoni Competition. I discovered him a few weeks ago; his silky smooth playing, phrasing, sense of rhythm and musicality impressed me. Have a look at his Ravel Toccata played when he was 12: an incredible performance. Chopin’s first étude – composed when he was 19 – has often been compared to Bach’s first prelude, also in C Major: it is a sort of modernized version but both rely on a series of ceaseless arpeggios and a constant rhythm to be maintained throughout. Regarding this étude, here is Chopin’s advice to one of his pupils, F. Müller-Streicher: « You shall benefit from this Étude. If you learn it according to my instructions, it will expand your hand and enable you to perform arpeggios like strokes of the violin bow. Unfortunately, instead of teaching, it frequently un-teaches everything. » Similar figurations designed for the expansion and contraction of the right hand could already be found in études written before Chopin’s: for instance in Cramer’s D major and minor études from 1815 and in Moscheles’ Étude Op. 70, out No. 11 from 1827. But Chopin’s novelty resides in the breadth of the right-hand arpeggios, in semiquavers at that, giving the impression of waves crashing… As a great Chopin admirer, Debussy would use the same device with the same effects for the left hand in his Toccata from Pour le piano (1892), his pianistic manifesto aiming for clarity. The revolutionary aspect of Chopin’s études lies in the perfect mix of melodic genius and technical challenge. Chopin transformed the technique of art for practice rooms into the art of technique for concert halls. #chopin #fredericchopin #ryotayamazaki #Japan #etude #practice #fyp #foryoupage #pianotok #explore #piano #pianotime #pianist #pianista #pianolover #classicalmusic #classical #pianomusic #musician #musicaclassica #pianolove #pianogram #musiclover #music #musica #pianocover #пианино #ピアノ #피아노 #钢琴
